Riding Lessons

Teaching Philosophy

The NMR teaching philosophy is to school the rider to “think like a horse.” By explaining the history of the horse/human connection and the mindset of the herd, both novice and experienced rider gain an awareness of a horse's natural instincts and methods of communication. Staff teach students that horses do not learn through fear or pain, but are connected to a rider through energy, intention and mindfulness.

The New Moon Ranch method enables many riders to work through fears, anxieties, traumas, and physical or mental limitations. The result is confidence, improved visual and auditory acuity, agility and horsemanship.

Staff work with people from ages 15years old to 70+. New students start with an introduction to bareback riding in which they make an immediate connection with their horse to directly engage their bodies and feelings.

Teaching Goals

New Moon Ranch instills an holistic development of the relationship between each horse and rider.
Students at New Moon Ranch learn to:
  • develop trust with their full body, mind and breath
  • guide with their hands and heart
  • ask and communicate with their legs
  • ride fully in their seat with directed energy and intention in a non-violent manner.
